How do you improve a stellar veteran team that have secured back-to-back championships, featuring a league-cup double with thirty victories from 32 matches?

One Greater Manchester club boasts an amateur vets team with 9 ex- top-flight players in their current lineup.

222 Top Division Goals, 325 Global Appearances

The team Veterans Over-35s are located in south Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans Division Top Division.

The lineup this season features nine former Premier League footballers, with a collective nearly 1,800 Premier League matches.

This high-profile team also boasts 222 top division goals and over 320 international caps.

They feature Papiss Cisse, who scored thirty-seven scores in over 100 appearances for Newcastle United after joining them for nine million pounds from German league side SC Freiburg in January 2012.

Cisse made his debut for Wythenshawe in their last home game against defending title holders Collegiate Old Boys and netted all six scores in a 6-2 win - including a 32-minute opening period triple.

Wythenshawe's roster for this season also includes ex- professionals such as English and Anfield forward Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley FC winger George Boyd, Everton striker Oumar Niasse, Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League title victors Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

In total, the former Premier League players have claimed 15 significant honors and transferred for total transfer sums of around £123m.

Famous Figures and International Stars

Ireland started turning out for the team in preseason this season through close mate and current team teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland midfielder then invited other ex-pros, who all play in a midweek nine-a-side game, to join in.

Ex- Senegalese forward Niasse, who scored 12 scores in 65 Premier League matches for Everton and still goes to their home games, also made his first appearance against Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and use an Blue warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A mate Stephen said 'come and have a game, it's enjoyable'," commented Niasse.

"After that he informed me we were playing a team from Liverpool and the shock I had when I saw them sporting Everton kits - I thought this is strange for me!

"When you still enjoy football and you feel you can still do it, anywhere you can play, what are you going to do?

"The fans who come and watch are pleased and to give someone's moment if they see us playing there and to ask us queries - it's really about the pleasure of us having somewhere we can play, with organisation of course."

So great is the bench strength at Wythenshawe, he had his first game at full-back.

"That's a bit different but then, I love sprinting and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Scenario

In addition to the forward's six goals on debut, Ireland has scored eight in three games for the side, while Boyd scored five on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, scored a hat-trick in one match up front.

The team are leading of the Top Tier with three victories from three and a goal difference of plus nineteen.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who features on the wing for the opposition, faced ex- Latics defender Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at two global tournaments for his country, in addition to featuring in over two hundred Premier League matches.

"It was going round like a rumor they had these former top-flight players," said Barrow.

"I think I was a bit awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"We literally have not ceased chatting about it - I was phoning my mum and brother on the journey home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a group of regular guys.

"Now we are eager for the return match."

'We'll Still Take the Title'

The manager coaches the Collegiate vets team, who won the Top Division championship last season, along with his co-manager.

"Our team went 1-0 up and had a
